Romero Britto: Come To My World

Romero Britto arrived in Berlin again to present his latest paintings in the Automobil Forum Unter den Linden. Focused solely in Britto’s art, and tagged as the largest exhibition of his work, the show contained approximately 50 pictures in various styles and sizes. Additionally, a Britto-styled Bentley (Continental GT) was unveiled. This unique car will be auctioned for a MS fund in November, already bids are in from all over the world – including Dubai.

Popart 2

Ah, it’s art time again. I missed the first Popart (silly me), but I received an invitation for the opening of the second exhibition: Popart 2. What can you expect? Well, 15 artists from 8 countries. Or vice versa.

Who is showing pieces there? Certainly Romero Britto, plus Guldenstern, John Suchy, Luigi Rocca, Plusminus Produkties, Gerstein, Lisa Grubb, and many more. Check the full text for images and more info on the exhibition. Read the rest of this entry »

Romero Britto visited Berlin today, opening an exhibition of his works at the Galerie Mensing. He promoted his painting “Together” (which can be seen on the right picture), of which the proceeds go to the Rudolf-Walther charity for children. During the welcome speech it became clear that Romero Britto supported over 300 charitable causes last year.

This visit nearly marks the end of his stay in Germany, and again he took the time to pose for photos, sign invitations, books – and, of course, also his paintings. Overall, the event was well visited and the images he brought from Miami were colourful, inspired, and uplifting.

Tomorrow, his journey continues to Düsseldorf. I really hope he will come back to Berlin soon (or I will get another chance to travel to Miami, which is, in a way, my preferred option for some reason).

Urban Cup Holders

I love design if it combines utility and aesthetics. I enjoy design if it is pleasing to look at – I won’t buy it then, because it’s overpriced and useless… Better Living Through Design reports on a number of items from both categories. For example: the urban cup holder.

What is it? Well, a cup holder that you can attach to a lamp post "to encourage people to reinterpret street settings and claim them as their territory". Like dogs do, I guess, so the fight for street posts is on *g* I don’t really feel like claiming a part of the street as my own (if the street is empty, it’s "mine" anyway – if it’s busy, people would simply bump into my hot coffee by accident). My life is not so hectic, I have enough time to drink my coffee in a cozy, relaxed café.

Artist Ernst Fuchs in Berlin

Prof. Ernst Fuchs, a famous Austrian artist, visited the Galerie Mensing today to attend the opening of an exhibition of his paintings. Although he is also known for his architecture, poetry, and philosophical essays, the gallery of course focused on his "fantastic realism" paintings. The laudation was held by Ralf Rensmann, who emphasized the genius, creativity, and versatility of Fuchs. Prof. Fuchs replied his artistry is not driven by the need to exorcize his inner demons, but rather by the question about the purpose of life.

It is always great to see such important artists up close and personal. And, only in Berlin: after the end of his opening speech, Prof. Fuchs welcomed Alfred Biolek who was (invited by Fuchs) suddenly standing quietly among the other visitors. Very cool, it even prompted Prof. Fuchs to sing a short tune, in the memory of their joint cooking in "Alfredissimo".

The best thing, however, was that he took some time to sign books or the invitations if nothing else was handy – and frankly I did not have the funds to buy one of his – admittedly beautiful – paintings. I always love it when you have some unique token to remember the event, and if such renowned artists spend time with the "customers", I heartily appreciate the effort.

See pictures (sorry, old mobile phone) from the event in the full article.

Romero Britto visits Berlin

Pop-artist Romero Britto visited Berlin today to attend an opening of his exhibition. Born in Brazil, he moved to Miami several years ago where he gained popularity. Later on the Kennedy family became his prime supporter. In 2007, he designed the opening ceremony together with the Cirque Du Soleil.

His style is colorful and filled with positive energy. But not only his paintings and sculptures are impressive, he took also the time to sign his works – or, if you couldn’t afford one, the invitations of the opening. In most cases he even added a small impromptu drawing. Very cool.
