The Scharffenberger Event

Ol’ Captain Scharffenberger emerged again in Porto Bello Deserted Quay, so we got to see dead people…

In previous events I tried to get there as fast as possible, but was unfortunately always a tad too slow. Today I was actually leveling in Deserted Quay, so I could be at the right place in time. Before Scharffenberger made his big entry, we had to defeat several waves of his minions. Being a low-level event (with 50 I juuuust made the cut), this was surprisingly easy.

The really cool thing happened afterwards, when the loot was "distributed" (read: a gamemaster dropped costumes on the ground). I managed to grab one for my scout (Mercenaries Mercy) - which looks similar to the dress I already have, only in a different color: Pretty slick, nevertheless, and I was happier than a pig in the mud.

the old costume (in white)

the new costume (blue-grey)

And by now I also managed to gain all Siegmund vouchers in Porto Bello again. Let’s see what the reward will be this time…

Siegmund Vouchers

Yay, I finally was able to collect all Siegmund vouchers in Porto Bello. Let’s see what the reward will be… Six XP cards. Meh.

In other news: my three main characters hit level 50 today - hooray! I guess it’s really time to post some pictures.

My question in the official forums for other SotNW-related blogs came up empty so far. But, nevertheless, here is a list of (I think) interesting blogs about the various eastern versions… in no particular order:

Nine Moons Family
Crest of Rose and Thorn
The Diary of Sigrid
Granado Espada
Elquines in sgGE
Hrin’s GE blog

Urban Cup Holders

I love design if it combines utility and aesthetics. I enjoy design if it is pleasing to look at - I won’t buy it then, because it’s overpriced and useless… Better Living Through Design reports on a number of items from both categories. For example: the urban cup holder.

What is it? Well, a cup holder that you can attach to a lamp post "to encourage people to reinterpret street settings and claim them as their territory". Like dogs do, I guess, so the fight for street posts is on *g* I don’t really feel like claiming a part of the street as my own (if the street is empty, it’s "mine" anyway - if it’s busy, people would simply bump into my hot coffee by accident). My life is not so hectic, I have enough time to drink my coffee in a cozy, relaxed café.

Updates from the New World

Just like I thought - it’s rather hard to do blog updates while advancing with your family. So a lot has happened since the last entry. And instead of splitting it up into multiple posts, I’ll try to catch up in one.

First, the family has grown to eight people now. Beside the three main characters (Ariana the fighter, Holli the scout, and Betany the wizard) a number of NPCs have now joined the team.

Second, as the adventures are progressing, experience was gained. Now the level of the major characters is 46, while the rest is around the mid and lower 30s.

Third, I’m a member of a clan (ShadowLords) now *g*

Artist Ernst Fuchs in Berlin

Prof. Ernst Fuchs, a famous Austrian artist, visited the Galerie Mensing today to attend the opening of an exhibition of his paintings. Although he is also known for his architecture, poetry, and philosophical essays, the gallery of course focused on his "fantastic realism" paintings. The laudation was held by Ralf Rensmann, who emphasized the genius, creativity, and versatility of Fuchs. Prof. Fuchs replied his artistry is not driven by the need to exorcize his inner demons, but rather by the question about the purpose of life.

It is always great to see such important artists up close and personal. And, only in Berlin: after the end of his opening speech, Prof. Fuchs welcomed Alfred Biolek who was (invited by Fuchs) suddenly standing quietly among the other visitors. Very cool, it even prompted Prof. Fuchs to sing a short tune, in the memory of their joint cooking in "Alfredissimo".

The best thing, however, was that he took some time to sign books or the invitations if nothing else was handy - and frankly I did not have the funds to buy one of his - admittedly beautiful - paintings. I always love it when you have some unique token to remember the event, and if such renowned artists spend time with the "customers", I heartily appreciate the effort.

See pictures (sorry, old mobile phone) from the event in the full article.
