Into a new world
Ah, the wonders of a new experience!
Continuing my SotNW saga, the first "challenge" is to - pick a server. I used the time during downloading, installation, and updating to read the more prominent posts in the game’s forum. But really, there is not much choice yet… only one server for DE, so "Illier" it is.
Next, I need to create a family, which will in the game represent my party. Family name… hm, first choice is taken. No matter, switch a letter and may I introduce: the Rychards family. What class shall I play? Fighter, scout, magician, elementalist, musketeer? Magician sound fine, alas, I don’t like the game model for my main character.
SotNW offers only one male and one female model for each class. So you will meet many twins on your journey, which only differentiate through the clothes. OK, blond lady: fighter it is. There is no deeper reason for choosing a female avatar; the logic - for me - is simple: I will be looking at this character in the game for a looooong time, so I could pick an appealing one while I’m at it.
Now I’m on a ship, sailing to the new world. The captain asks me to get him a bottle of rum. Talk about cliches. In the tutorial I learn everything about moving my character, talking to people, and controlling the camera. That’s it. No introduction to major game concepts (stances, more on that later) or the fighting system.
Duh.
Anyway, we land safely in the New World, I have my papers checked (talk to a NPC soldier), get my first "orders" (talk to another NPC), and take a stroll around town. I’m a bit lost since I managed to overlook the first NPC, but soon I’m off to Reboldoeux, the first city where I can find work.
